With the blessing of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta presided over the festive events on the feast of St. David of Evia, which took place in the Holy Church of Panagia Soumela in East Keilor, inside which there is a Holy Chapel dedicated to the honored Saint.
On Monday afternoon, 31 October 2002, the day before the feast day, Bishop Evmenios officiated at the Festive Great Vespers, while on Tuesday morning, 1 November 2022, the main day of the feast, he presided over the Festive Divine Liturgy.
During his sermon, Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, after conveying the blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios to the faithful of the celebrating parish, referred, among other things, to the life of Saint David and specifically to His first steps when he decided to follow Christ.
Bishop Evmenios explained, the first thing the Saint did was to look for a spiritual father and he found Elder Akakios. “This tells us a lot, spiritual progress cannot be achieved alone,” he pointed out and continued: “Everyone needs guidance.
Everyone needs someone to advise them and someone to correct them. This is the only way to ensure proper spiritual progress and development, through a spiritual father who will love us for who we are and pray for our salvation.”
