“The destruction of historical memory is a major crime from a historic point of view”, said in his speech the Metropolitan Stefanos of Filippon, Neapoleos and Thasoy.
In an event for the unveiling of a bust of the hero of Macedonian Struggle, Pavlos Melas, in Kavala, Metropolitan Stefanos stressed that “peace, love, unity and solidarity among the peoples consist the spiritual basis of civilization, but the destruction of historic memory is a major crime against history, our life and our children’s future”.
He also noted that the struggle by all those that sacrificed their life for the freedom of their country is not justified by events in their memory but “by all of us, if we follow their footsteps”.
Metropolitan Stefanos of Filippon, invited the faithful to not be afraid to sing the national anthem, arguing that “God shall not let anyone humiliate us by any means”.
The ceremony for the unveiling of the bust took place in the city centre and there attended, with Metropolitan of Filippon’s invitation, Metropolitan Panteleimon of Xanthi and Peritheorion, Chrysostomos of Eleutheroupolis, Emmanuel of Polyani and Kilkis, and Panteleimon of Maroneias and Komotinis.
