The funeral service for the late Bishop Ierotheos of Efkarpia, a revered high priest of the Ecumenical Throne and Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Saint Irene of Chrysovalantos in Astoria, New York, took place on Thursday, March 14, 2024. At noon, his burial commenced at the Cemetery of Thermo in Aitoloakarnania.
Earlier that morning, a solemn funeral service was held at the Holy Trinity Church of Patras, where Bishop Ierotheos had served diligently for many years. Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Patras presided over the service, joined by several Hierarchs, including Metropolitan Damaskinos of Aetolia and Akarnania.
Following the service, the revered Bishop’s remains were transferred to his birthplace, Thermo of Aitoloakarnania. There, a memorial service was conducted, attended by the Protosyncellus of the Holy Metropolis, the Mayor of Thermo, and other dignitaries. Metropolitan Damaskinos of Aetolia and Acarnania conveyed the profound grief and sorrow of the local Church at the loss of the esteemed clergyman.
Subsequently, a procession made its way to the Cemetery of Thermo, where Bishop Ierotheos was laid to rest.
