In the Saints Archangels Michael and Gabriel Orthodox Cathedral in Brussels, the Metropolitan of Belgium and Exarch of the Netherlands and Luxembourg, Athenagoras, officiated at the Divine Liturgy on the Third Sunday of Lent, March 31, 2019, with the participation of the bishops of the Metropolis of Belgium.
During the Divine Liturgy the ordination of Deacon Constantine Psallas as presbyter took place.
Metropolitan Athenagoras, addressing the new priest of the Metropolitan Church, said that “the habit is, at the same time, an object of worship and hatred, respect and contempt. Every time they honour you, you should honour the Lord.”
He also stressed that “holiness is the first and most important care of the priest. His personal holiness, the holiness of his family and ultimately the holiness of the souls that the Church has entrusted to him.”
After the Divine Liturgy followed a formal Doxology for the Greek National holiday, in the presence of the diplomatic authorities of Greece in Belgium headed by Ambassador Eleftheria Galathianaki and the military representatives of Greece and NATO led by Vice Admiral Konstantinos Karageorgis.
