According to the first information, the late Metropolitan of Phthiotida, Nikolaos, suffered a heart attack.
It should be noted that Metropolitan Ignatios of Demetrias is now the Vicar of the Holy Metropolis.
The late Metropolitan of Phthiotida, Nikolaos Protopapas, was born in 1948 in Tinos, Plateia.
He studied at the Rizarios Ecclesiastical School and the Theological School of the University of Athens, and was awarded the diploma in 1972.
He was ordained a Deacon in 1973 and Presbyter in 1975. He served as an Archdeacon and Pastor of the Holy Metropolis of Chalkida (1973-1975).
He was a Professor of the Tinos School of Ecclesiastical Studies (1975 – 1978) and Pastor of the Panhellenic Holy Foundation of Evangelistria of Tinos (1975-1984).
He served as Director of Services and of the Theological Boarding School of Apostoliki Diakonia (1984-1996), General Director of the Radio Station of the Church (1990-1996) and Pastor of St. Eleftherios Areos Church.
He had written many studies of theological, historical and literary content and had published many articles in newspapers and magazines.
He was elected Metropolitan of Phthiotida by the Hierarchy on October 1, ordained on October 6, at the Church of Saint Eleftherios and enthroned in Lamia on November 17, 1996.
