On Palm Sunday, April 28, Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta presided over the service at the Archdiocesan Church of the Virgin Mary “Axion Esti” in Northcote, Victoria.
The Bishop blessed the palms, as specified in the Typikon of the Church, and conveyed to the congregation the wishes of Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
In his sermon, regarding the significance of the day’s great feast, he emphasized the importance of steadfastness in our faith, urging us to be fervent rather than lukewarm. Continuing his sermon, he remarked, “The very same people who once exclaimed ‘Hosanna, blessed is the one who comes,’ soon after, cried out for Christ’s crucifixion.” Therefore, we must reflect on whether today we also welcome Christ, only to swiftly exclude Him from our lives moments later.”
In conclusion, the Bishop of Kerasounta emphasized the significance of the holy services of the Holy Week, highlighting their importance in preparation for the celebration of the Resurrection of the Lord. He urged the faithful to actively participate in all the services and to deeply engage with the events of the Holy Passion in a meaningful manner.
