A check with the amount of 130.000 euros was handed over by Archbishop Chrysostomos II of Cyprus to the Minister of Agriculture Costas Kadis, from a fundraiser conducted by the Church in support of the fire victims of the mountainous areas of Limassol and Larnaca.
The meeting took place at the offices of the Archdiocese of Cyprus. The Director-General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment (YGAAP) Andreas Grigoriou participated in the meeting and discussed issues related to the situation in the mountainous areas of Limassol and Larnaca provinces after the catastrophic fire that broke out on July 3, 2021.
At the center of the discussion were the measures taken to support the residents and the Communities of these areas, as well as the progress of the anti-flood and anti-erosion works that are currently underway there. During the discussion, the Minister informed the Archbishop about all the plans, measures, and actions implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment (YGAAP) in relation to the above, while the Archbishop of Cyprus expressed the readiness of the Church of Cyprus to assist, in all possible ways, in the effort of the Government, the State and the Communities themselves to revitalize the area and reactivate its inhabitants.
In the above context, at the end of the meeting, the Archbishop of Cyprus handed over to the Minister a check for 130 thousand euros, from a fundraiser carried out by the Church of Cyprus to support the fire victims of the mountainous areas of Limassol and Larnaca.
The Minister, after warmly thanking the Archbishop for this important contribution of the Church, said that the amount will be used entirely for the construction of firefighting projects around the affected communities, to strengthen their fire protection.
