The Church of Cyprus is officially entering a new era. Metropolitan Georgios of Paphos was elected as the new Archbishop of Cyprus.
The voting process took place after the end of the Divine Liturgy in the chapel of the Apostle Barnabas within the Holy Archdiocese.
After the completion of the voting and the election of the Archbishop, the bells of the old cathedral of Agios Ioannis are ringing joyfully.
According to information, Metropolitan of Paphos Georgios received 11 votes, Metropolitan of Limassol Athanasios received 4 votes, while there was also a blank ballot. It was believed to belong to the Metropolitan of Kykkos, a rumour that was rejected.
