On Thursday, nine days were completed since the tragic train accident in the area of Tempi, which resulted in the loss of the lives of many of our fellow human beings.
With the blessing of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, the Holy Metropolis of Larissa and Tyrnavos, participating in the mourning that has shocked the whole world, conducted at the scene of the accident a Memorial Service, for the repose of the souls of our brothers and sisters who fell asleep in the lord in such a tragic and violent way.
The Trisagion was performed by Metropolitan Ieronymos of Larissa and Tyrnavos, as the representative of Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and all Greece, and the Permanent Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, with the participation of Metropolitan Georgios of Kitros, of Katerini and Platamona and Metropolitan Chariton of Elassona.
Metropolitan Ieronymos thanked the rescuers (and volunteers), firefighters, police, doctors, nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, and clergy who were present, who from the first moment sacrificially faced the tragic accident and its consequences, rescuing human dignity and supporting all those who experienced their suffering pain.
Special mention was made of the injured who are being treated at both the General and the Larissa University Hospitals, some of them intubated, and the wholehearted prayer was that they return home quickly.
Finally, Metropolitan Ieronymos of Larissa made special reference to the initiative of the Region of Thessaly to erect a small church, so that the tragic accident will never be forgotten and that the prayer for the souls of those who left the scene of the accident for heaven will be constant.
