Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill of Moscow will not meet in Kazakhstan next month, as reported by the Russian Ria, citing Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk.
The Pope, who will be in the capital Nur-Sultan from September 13 to September 15 to attend the VII Conference of World and Traditional Leaders, has said in several interviews that he hopes to meet with Patriarch Kirill while he is in Kazakhstan.
However, Metropolitan Antonios, who recently became Metropolitan of Volokolamsk after the expulsion of Hilarion, clarified that there is no question of the meeting of the two religious leaders.
“This (meeting) must be an independent event, due to its importance,” said the Metropolitan of Volokolamsk.
