The Community of the Dormition of the Theotokos, Brisbane becomes a Parish of the Archdiocese of Australia

Archbishop Makarios of Australia visited the Parish of the Dormition of the Theotokos, Mount Gravatt in Brisbane, where he officiated at the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, May 22, in an atmosphere of joy and enthusiasm.

This is because last week the members of the Community made a historic decision on its future and prospects. In accordance with all the procedures provided for in its Articles of Association (constitution), they decided after a vote to become a Parish and to join fully under the Holy Archdiocese of Australia and the spiritual leadership of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia. This development marks a change in their history and an important step for its further development and progress.

During the official dinner offered in honor of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, expressed his paternal satisfaction with this decision, talking about a milestone in the history of the Parish, with very auspicious prospects.

Archbishop Makarios appeared convinced that the role of the Parish in the local community would be increased and that it would become a beacon of spirituality in Brisbane and the wider Queensland society. Immediately, however, the Holy Archdiocese of Australia and personally the Archbishop are working through the establishment of a kindergarten in the Parish to meet the increased needs of the faithful in the area.

His Eminence also did not fail to mention and thank those who contributed to the effort sealed by the decision of the Special General Meeting of 15 May, addressing initially Bishop Emilianos of Meloa, Archiepiscopal Vicar for the Archdiocesan District of Brisbane, and Father Nicholas Brown, Proistamenos of Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos, Mt Gravatt.

He then congratulated the President, Luke Comino, and all the members of the Executive Committee, for their trust in the Holy Archdiocese and their Shepherd and for the recognition of the spiritual benefit that the decided transition signals. Finally, Archbishop Makarios praised the ladies of the Philoptochos for their timeless contribution and for their constant devotion to the Church.

The members of the Council who had a special meeting with the Archbishop, as well as the ladies of Philoptochos, expressed their satisfaction and joy for the new promising start of the Parish and stressed that they fully trust Archbishop Makarios and the Holy Archdiocese of Australia.
