The General Meeting unanimously decided that the Holy Association of Clerics of Greece shall remain firm on its up to now consistent and clear position, which is the unanimous decision of the Holy Synod of the Hierarch of the Church of Greece on November 16, 2018, “to insist on the existing payroll status of the clerics and officials of the Church of Greece”.
The clerics made the decision to remain firm on their positions about the existing payroll status during the General Meeting of the Holy Association of the Clerics of Greece, which took place on Thursday.
Besides, their position is also the unanimous proposal by the Holy Synod of the Hierarch of the Church of Greece (November 16, 2018).
In particular, as it is also pointed out by the relevant announcement of the Association, the General Meeting concluded that the Holy Clergymen of the Church of Greece, the Church of Crete, and the Metropolitans of Dodecanese strongly oppose any planned change of the existing payroll and working status of the Clerics.
It is also stressed that they have the clear and complete support of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, the Holy Provincial Synod of the Church of Crete and the Metropolitans of Dodecanese.
The president of HACG expressed the opposition of the Association to a state of religious neutrality, to any revision of Articles 3 and 21 of the Constitution.
The main speaker was the lawyer-specialist in labor law Mr. Alexis Mitropoulos who “deconstructed” the “plan” presented by the Minister of Education.
He mentioned, inter alia, that the “new” governmental proposal means that the holy clergy is cut off the Single Payment Authority which shall be transferring the money for the payment of the clerics to the under establishment Account (!!!) under the name “Payment Fund for the Church of Greece”, to which we shall belong, and by which we shall be paid from now on, according to the plan. Therefore, according to the proposed governmental plan, the clerics shall be expelled from the Registers of Single Wage Scale (clerics) and the Special Wage Scale (archbishops) since the Single Wage Scale relinquishes any responsibility after the granting of the amount for the payment of the clerics by the State towards the under establishment Fund-Account. It is allegedly a new plan with verbal changes so as to affect the public.
Furthermore, during the assembly, Zaharias Adamakis, Head of the Multimember Delegation of the Association of Clerics of Crete, conveyed the firm and vigorous opposition of the Holy Provincial Synod and the Provincial Clerics of the Church of Crete in their totality against the attempted revision of Articles 3 and 21 of the Constitution and any other alteration concerning the Clerics’ payroll.
