In Adelaide, the “city of Churches”, as it has been correctly characterized, arrived on the morning of Saturday, February 26, the Archbishop of Australia Makarios, accompanied by the Archimandrite of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia Christophoros Krikelis, the Archdeacon Athinagoras and the Deacon Irineos, in order to make a pastoral visit, after the lifting of the pandemic restrictions.
The Archbishop was welcomed at the airport by Bishop Silouan of Sinope, Archiepiscopal Commissioner of Adelaide, and several clergymen, associates of the Archdiocese Offices in Adelaide and faithful from the city.
Immediately after his arrival, the Archbishop visited the Holy Church of St. Panteleimon, where he performed a Trisagion for the rest of the blessed predecessors of Christophoros, Timotheos, Theophylactos, Ezekiel and Stylianos, as well as all the clergy and laity, who once belonged to the flock of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia and now belong to the triumphant Church.
In the afternoon, he visited the ailing Bishop of Christianoupolis Pavlos, to whom, among other things, he conveyed the wishes and love of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, and then visited the newly built Church of Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene, where he supervised the work of icon-painting in the Church and the completion of the interior decoration.
An official dinner in honor of Archbishop Makarios was held in the Hall of the Church, attended by the priests of the Adelaide Region with their elders, while during the meal young people danced traditional songs in honor of the high esteemed visitor.
