At the Annual ‘Summer Greek Festival’ which took place on Sunday, 29 January 2023, at the Parish of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Thomastown, Melbourne, many Greeks came to participate and support the local event.
Representing Archbishop Makarios of Australia, Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Northcote, was present at the ‘Summer Greek Festival’.
The turnout was impressive and everyone had a great time. During the festival, the “Aristotelis” dance group performed and presented a suite of traditional dances, whilst there were lots of games for the kids and also camel rides! There was also a competition for the best cake, which was won by Loukia Andrews.
Bishop Evmenios, during his short address to those who had gathered for the festival, conveyed all the prayers and wishes of Archbishop Makarios of Australia and pointed out His Eminence’s concern for the preservation of Greek traditions.
Specifically, Bishop Evmenios, after congratulating the people of the Parish, the volunteers, and all those who supported the organization of the event, emphasized the Archbishop’s concern for the preservation of the Orthodox faith, the Greek language, culture and traditions of the Greek Community in Australia, which also contribute to corresponding events such as that of the Parish of the Transfiguration of the Saviour, Thomastown.
