Two more monks of the Monastery of the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius passed away yesterday. According to a post of the monastery, one of them was hospitalised due to the coronavirus.
As reported by the ANA-MPA, the head doctor of the monastery and the Theological Academy of Moscow, Abbot Tikhon ( also known as Barsukov), also passed away due to complications caused by the coronavirus. It was also announced that one of the oldest monks of the monastery, Archimandrite Lavrentios (also known as Postnikov), passed away at the age of 87, but the reasons that led to his death were not mentioned. It is recalled that the Russian Orthodox Church announced the deaths of some of their priests last week as well.
Moreover, Metropolitan and Honorary Archpriest of the Temple of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Altufyevo, Iona (Karpukhin), passed away, according to the announcement of the Russian Orthodox Church.
As announced a few days ago by the Moscow Patriarchate’s working group that coordinates the activities of all ecclesiastical institutions during coronavirus pandemic, on the channel available on the social network Telegram, Deacon Andrey Molchanov, who served at a church in Moscow, and Archpriest Evgeny Korchukov passed away due to coronavirus-related complications.
