Wess Mitchell, US Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs, filed his resignation.
According to the State Department, Mitchell will leave his post on February 15. He will be succeeded by Elizabeth Millard, who was one step below in the hierarchy.
In a recent interview with the newspaper “Kathimerini”, Mitchell stated that Turkey’s claims over the EEZ of Cyprus were “a minority of one versus the rest of the world”.
As the article mentions, Mitchell believes that Greece, Israel and Cyprus are clearly those frontier states that guarantee the security of the Eurasian region and therefore that of the United States.
In his letter of resignation, the US diplomat cited personal and professional reasons, according to US media.
