On March 21, 2024, Evyenia Sidereas, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in the Egyptian capital, officially visited the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
Receiving Sidereas at the Patriarchate, Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa, expressed his delight at the visit of the distinguished Greek diplomat to the birthplace of American diplomacy. He also expressed his satisfaction with the strengthening of cooperation between the United States, Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region, and emphasized the gratitude of the Church of Alexandria to the leaderships of the aforementioned states for their continued support of its overall missionary, pastoral, humanitarian and spiritual work on the African continent. He also addressed the challenges as well as the emerging obstacles in this regard.
Finally, with words of love and gratitude, the Patriarch expressed his appreciation to Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, the local Church, and the Greek community of America for their unwavering support and trust in the missionary work. He also made special mention of his constructive meeting with the President of the United States, Joe Biden, last year.
In response, Sidereas thanked the Patriarch for the warm welcome and expressed her continued support for the Venerable Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa. An exchange of commemorative gifts and a tour of the Patriarchal Palace followed.
Also present at the meeting were the Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod, Metropolitan Panteleimon of Ptolemais, and Alyssa Aalmo Becker, a staff member of the American Embassy in Cairo.
