At noon on the 13th of January, Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria sang “Memory Eternal” for Eleni Vafiadis, who passed away yesterday.
“I am sad because this church invites me to say goodbye to a woman I loved and she also loved me. Her name was Eleni Vafiadis, who went to see her beloved late husband again, Isidoros Vafiadis, in heaven. May her memory be eternal!” he said, according to ekalexandria.org, at the funeral service. Eleni Vafiadis was Vice President of the Greek Community of Alexandria and had offered a lot to the parish.
Her son, Andreas Vafiadis, the First Vice President of the Greek Community of Alexandria, who continues the work of his father and the contribution of his mother, attended the funeral. Her daughter and her grandchildren were also present.
The Head of the Orthodox Church of Alexandria and all Africa performed the service along with the Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria, Metropolitan of Narcissos of Naucratis and Bishop Germanos of Tamiatheus and expressed his gratitude to her family.
“Eleni Vafiadis was like a piece of jewellery for our parish thanks to her modesty. She was an example of honesty, courtesy and aristocracy. She was a noblewoman of our parish. She was descent and blessed mother, who fell asleep in the Lord. She believed and loved the Kingdom of God because she was a conscious Christian, a conscious mother, a conscious patriot,” the Patriarch said.
“I hope that you will be blessed and that your mother’s blessing is among you. May her memory be eternal! Let us follow her blessed example in our lives,” he added.
