On Sunday, April 10, the 5th Sunday of Lent, in memory of Saint Mary of Egypt, Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, officiated at the Orthros and presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Church of Saint Paraskevi in St Albans, Melbourne.
Apart from the memory of Saint Mary of Egypt, the Church also celebrates the memory of Saint Demosthenes the martyr on April 10, so the Priest of the Church, Father Demosthenes Nikolaou, celebrated his Name day.
In his sermon, Bishop Evmenios focused his homily on the person of Saint Mary of Egypt, stating, among other things, that the Holy Fathers in Wisdom placed the memory of the Saint one week before Holy and Great Week to give us a reason to awaken our indifference, and our mental negligence and to do something practical to change our lives and free ourselves from what holds us captive so that we can accept the Risen Christ.
The Bishop, also, conveyed to Father Demosthene the wishes and prayers of Archbishop Makarios of Australia for his names day and to all the faithful, His paternal blessings for a peaceful celebration of Pascha.
