A vigil took place at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Panagia Spilaiotissa on Wednesday evening, June 12, for the Theotokos Axion Esti. The service was officiated by the Metropolitan Nektarios of Corfu, Paxos and Diapontia Islands.
Metropolitan presented briefly the history of the miraculous icon of the Theotokos, located at the Protaton of Mount Athos.
Metropolitan Nektarios wished to the faithful that the Grace of the Virgin Mary would give them strength in their spiritual struggle and would protect our country, especially in these difficult times, when the threats and the challenges from Turkey are intensifying.
It must be mentioned that there is a copy of the miraculous icon of the Theotokos Axion Esti in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Corfu, which was created by the fathers of Mount Athos to bless the people of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontia Islands.
