Addressing the congregation present in the junction where the Epitaph Processions of the town met, the Metropolitan began his preaching with a reference to his predecessor Metropolitan Plato who was slaughtered by Ottoman troops during the Chios Massacre on Holy Friday, 1822. Then he quoted an epistle by Alexander the Great to Chians in 332 BC. asking for the restoration of the democratic body politics “in the one and only Macedonian language, i.e the Greek one”.
