In the morning, May 2, 2024, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America served as a priest at Vesperal Divine Liturgy of Holy and Great Thursday in the Archdiocese Chapel of Saint Paul. Chancellor of the Archdiocesan District Fr. Elias Villis and Archdeacon Dionysios Papiris served in the Liturgy with the Archbishop. The staff of the Archdiocese gathered for this annual service.
Archbishop Iakovos, of blessed memory, began this tradition of the Archbishop presiding over Holy Thursday at the Chapel of Saint Paul with the spiritual family of the Archdiocese, symbolizing the Mystical Supper Christ shared with His disciples.
“We do not refer to this great gift as the ‘last supper’ but in truth, we call it the ‘only supper,'” the Archbishop remarked in his Homily, “As baptized Christians we are beyond time, we are beyond death… We are there where our Lord celebrated His Eucharist and offered His blood and body to the people.”
