Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium paid a pilgrimage visit on the island of Corfu on July 10-11, 2021.
On Sunday, July 11, 2021, the Metropolitan went to the Church of Saint Spyridon, where, at the invitation and canonical permission of Metropolitan Nektarios of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontian Islands. There he officiated Orthros and presided over the Divine Liturgy.
In his sermon, the Metropolitan of Belgium referred to the evangelical pericope of Sunday, while addressing the large congregation of various ethnicities and traditions, he stressed the ecumenicality of St. Spyridon and of the Orthodox Church.
Before the end of the Divine Liturgy, he thanked Metropolitan Nektarios of Corfu for the permission and the blessing of the Divine Liturgy before the holy relics of the Miraculous Saint Spyridon, while thanking the Hierarchical Head of the Holy Pilgrimage, Protopresbyer Georgios Vlachos, for his hospitality.
