Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium and Exarch of the Netherlands and Luxembourg received the High Leadership of AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association) on the morning of Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the Metropolis Headquarters in Brussels.
The delegation consisted of President Dimitrios Kokotas, Treasurer Christos Kaitson, and the Counselor Themistoklis Frangos, accompanied by the members of the organization in Europe Konstantinos Vamvakas, Georgios Kritikos, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Belgium, and Demosthenes Mammonas.
Initially, Metropolitan Athenagoras thanked the American members of AHEPA for their visit, as part of their trip to Europe, and referred to the history and various actions of the Metropolis today, and respectively, High President Kokotas thanked for the reception and referred to issues of concern to the organization.
Extensive reference was made to the pastoral management of the refugees of the war in Ukraine who arrive in the Benelux states and the needs that are created, while Kritikos also referred to an important issue that concerns the Ecumenical Patriarchate, that of the return of the relics of the historic Monastery of Panagia Ikosifinissa of Paggaio in Eastern Macedonia, which were stolen during the First World War, for which there should be appropriate care and support of the actions of claiming the scattered treasures around the world and by the organization of AHEPA.
