“The legal recognition of the National Council of Christian Churches of the Republic of Congo-Brazzaville is of historical importance,” said Governor Jacques Essissongo, Director-General of Territorial Administration, who recognised the National Council.
He added, “We are happy about this legal recognition. History will portray this important day as a contribution to the local Orthodox Church, the headquarters of which have also been renovated. The official inauguration will be held on January 11, 2020. We thank the authorities of our country for always responding fully to our requests.
“The National Council of Christian Churches will be from now on able to set new and higher goals, such as the demand for the role of women to be enhanced at local level, the promotion of women’s rights, the reduction of the stigma of people with HIV, the protection of children’s rights, and the fight against social prejudices, according to Christian principles and values,” said Metropolitan of Brazzaville.
At the meeting, the Metropolitan reiterated the problem of the legal recognition of various religious groups (sects), which allege that they act on behalf of Christian Churches, that is of the Catholic, Orthodox, and Evangelical Churches. He added that their motives were very opaque, as they try to attract converts.
