With great joy and emotion, the Holy Archdiocese of Australia was informed of the decisions of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on the promotion of Bishop Ezekiel of Derby to Metropolitan of Derby and the election of four new Assistant Bishops to the Archdiocese of Australia.
The new Bishops assumed the following duties:
- Bishop-Elect Kyriakos of Sozopol is appointed Archepiscopal Vicar of Melbourne;
- Bishop-Elect Christodoulos of Magnesia is appointed Chief Secretary of the Synaxis of Bishops of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia;
- Bishop-Elect Evmenios of Kerasous is appointed Archepiscopal Vicar of Northcote;
- Bishop-Elect Prochoros of Charioupolis is appointed Archepiscopal Vicar of Canberra.
In addition, as a member of the Holy Synod, Archbishop Makarios of Australia thanked Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew for the honor and care shown by the Mother Church to the Holy Archdiocese of Australia and conveyed his love and respect to the Ecumenical Patriarch.
The Archbishop has completed his duties as a member of the Holy Synod. After the convening of the hierarchy meeting (September 1-3), he will return to his seat.
The dates of the Formal Election Announcement (Mega Minima) and the episcopal ordinations will be announced in good time, in accordance with the relevant measures provided by the State to curb the pandemic.
