The first day of the new year and the memory of St. Basil the Great were celebrated in the Archdiocesan District of Northcote. Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, the Archdiocesan Vicar of Northcote, presided over the services at the Church of St. Basil in Brunswick suburb, Melbourne, as reported by vema.com.au.
The Consul General of Greece in Melbourne, Emmanuel Kakavelakis, along with his mother and children, and the President of the Inter-Community Committee of Victoria, Antonios Tsourdalakis, attended the service.
During his sermon, after conveying to the faithful the wishes and blessings of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, Bishop Evmenios hoped that 2022 would be redeeming for all, and bring them moments of love, reconciliation and charity.
“Just to have Jesus Christ in our hearts and to carry Him with us,” he added, explaining that by having Christ as our companion, each person can better manage the upheavals in one’s life.
After the Divine Liturgy, the Bishop of Kerasounta blessed and cut the New Year’s pie of the Parish.
