On the feast of the Prophet Ezekiel, which is celebrated today by the Orthodox Church, Archbishop of Australia Makarios performed a trisagion for the repose of the soul of the blessed predecessor, Archbishop Ezekiel (Tsoukalas), in the presence of Bishop Aimilianos of Meloa and other members of the Youth Central Council.
At the end of the Trisagion, the Archbishop praised the personality and contribution of the late Hierarch.
He noted, among other things, that “to the best of my knowledge, after I arrived in this blessed province entrusted to me by God, the late Archbishop Ezekiel bought this historic and glorious cathedral that we have to this day, he also bought the current offices of the Archdiocese, he started the St. Basil’s Homes, he was the first to introduce the institution of assistant bishops. He also laid the foundation stone of most of the churches of our Archdiocese. He worked hard. Even today we follow the path of his work and vision.”
The Archbishop stressed: “God blessed me to be the successor of great church figures, such as Christopher, Timothy, Theophylaktos and my direct predecessor Stylianos, whose memory I keep. Today we remember with gratitude and emotion Ezekiel, who was a great figure. May his memory live forever.”
