The new members of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy visited Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and all Greece this morning so that he will give them his blessing before taking up their duties and be informed on their actions.
MP Maximos Charakopoulos noted that “We had an interesting discussion with the Archbishop about the persecutions of Christians in the Middle East. The Church of Greece has always shown its interest in Christians in the Middle East and plays a leading part in giving shelter in persecuted people, regardless of religion, who come to our country during these years.” He also thanked the Archbishop for the cooperation and for the great charity and social work he carries out.
At the same time, the Archbishop stressed that “in a difficult time, when the Orthodox come together in order to support their common ideals, it is a very important effort.” The Archbishop expressed the pain of the Church for the Christians being persecuted and slaughtered and wished all people to live in peace.
Afterwards, the Archbishop held a meeting with the Ambassador of Norway, Frode Overland Andersen, New Democracy MP Efstratios Simopoulos and then the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Panagiotis Mitarakis, with whom he discussed various issues of common interest.
