Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens referred for the second time in a few days to the conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque. He visited Lamia for the memorial service of late Metropolitan Nikolaos of Fthiotida.
Moreover, he stressed, “Erdogan is playing games to achieve his goals. He has his own purposes but I believe that the civilised world will condemn his games.” It is recalled that last week the Archbishop deemed the conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque as an “insult and affront to all civilised humankind.” The Archbishop of Athens stated, “The instrumentalisation of religion for the pursuit of party political, geopolitical and geostrategic expediencies characterises the one who attempts it.”
Finally, he said, “It is an insult and affront not only to the Orthodoxy and Christianity, in general, but also to all civilized humankind, to every thinking person regardless of religion. It is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.”
