Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece, due to the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic made the following statement:
“These moments are particularly critical for our country, as the second wave of the pandemic threatens the health and lives of many of our fellow humans. Our Church, which, from the first moment, entered the forefront of the national effort for the protection of the people, followed, and keeps following, all the instructions of the competent health authorities of our country and calls the municipal, regional and other political officials to participate, this year, in a different way to the Doxology for our National Anniversary Day of October 28. Honor the heroic sacrifices of our ancestors, the Greeks who gave their lives for our country, without taking part in official ceremonies, thus setting a good example for the avoidance of mass gatherings, which, according to experts, are the main source of virus spread. After all, every national holiday is a day of remembrance and a day of responsibility and duty for all of us. It is an opportunity to pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary, to protect our homeland from any kind of visible or invisible threat and scourge.”
