The first official visit of Archbishop Makarios of Australia to Newcastle is awaited with great anticipation by members of the community and clergy at the Holy Apostles Church in Hamilton, where the Archbishop will celebrate the Divine Liturgy between 8 and 11.30am this Sunday, November 10.
A warm welcome is being prepared by the Rector of the Church Father Nicholas Scordilis, the President of the Parish and Community Mr Paul Milonas, the Board of Directors of the Executive Committee, the Ladies Philoptochos Society, the youth, teachers, students and parents of the Greek School, the Sunday School and the School of Greek Traditional Dances, the Greek Welfare Centre based in Newcastle, the Program for the elderly as well as volunteers and community members.
“His presence will fill our hearts with joy and His blessings will strengthen all of us to continue our humble efforts to keep alive the precious treasures of our Orthodox Faith and traditions”, reads the announcement by the Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Parish of Newcastle.
Following the Divine Liturgy, an official luncheon will be given at the Parish’s Community Cultural Centre in the Archbishop’s honour.
