The funeral service of the Abbot of the Monastery of the Trinity of St. Sergius, Archimandrite Tikhon (also known as Barsukov), was performed on the 7th of May 2020 in Moscow. He reposed in the Lord on the 6th of May due to the coronavirus.
According to the official website of the Russian Church, he passed away due to complications caused by the coronavirus. A few priests and people attended the funeral service that took place at the central square respecting the precautionary measures. In addition, the coffin was sealed for the same reasons. Late Archimandrite Tikhon was the head doctor of the monastery and the one who had highlighted the danger of the spread of the coronavirus.
It is recalled that the faithful had exerted great pressure on the Monastery of the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius and the Theological Academy as soon as they announced the closure of the monastery. They were allowed to participate in the sacred services and, as a result, the rector of the Academy, Metropolitan Pitirim, the clergy and many students contracted the coronavirus.
