Sweden’s teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg had a brief meeting with Pope Francis, today in the Vatican, the French Agency reported.
“The Holy Father thanked and encouraged Greta Thunberg for her commitment to defending the environment,” explained Vatican press spokesman Alessandro Gisotti.
The two of them exchanged a handshake, and the 16-year-old Swede, thanked the Pontiff for “his efforts to protect the planet” by referring to the papal circular “Laudato si”, which is dedicated to this issue.
“I met Pope Francis today. I thanked him because he speaks clearly about the climate crisis. He told me to carry on my fight,” Greta Thunberg wrote on Facebook.
