Metropolitan Makarios held a meeting with EU Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos on Tuesday, July 9, in Nairobi, who is currently participating in a conference on refugees and immigration.
The Metropolitan and Dimitris Avramopoulos have known each other for more than 20 years when Avramopoulos was Mayor of Athens.
The Metropolitan informed the Commissioner about the missionary work in Kenya and throughout Africa.
He stressed in particular the great contribution of the Patriarchal School “Archbishop of Cyprus Makarios III” and the great effort of the Orthodox Church in the field of education and to combat hunger.
In the afternoon, Makarios received in his office Alexander Rondos, EU Special Representative for the Horn of Africa.
The Metropolitan welcomed Alexander Rondos in his office, where he presented the missionary work at the Holy Metropolis and throughout Kenya and Africa.
