What are the immediate actions taken by the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs

Extension of applications for the tertiary education, continuation of procedures for recruitment in Special Education, total application of compulsory two-year education, suspension of the establishment of a fourth Law School, changes in the curriculum of the final grade of High School, as well as processes to open schools in September without problems, are the immediate actions that will be taken by the Ministry of Education.

Minister Niki Kerameus, after her meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, at her office in the Ministry of Education, in the presence of the Deputy Ministers, Sofia Zacharaki and Vassilis Digalakis, referred in detail to these actions.

“There will be an extension of the submission of applications for the tertiary education, in order to find out if there are weaknesses in the operation of the new departments,” Minister Kerameus noted and clarified that the system of admission to higher education for the pupils who will be enrolled in September in the 3rd grade of Lyceum will not change in depth.

The Minister also stressed that the first bill to come to parliament after the Programme Statements on July 23, will include a regulation on the abolition of asylum. “We already hold talks with the bodies involved on the parameters of the regulation,” she said.

In addition, she announced the revocation of the establishment of a Committee on the curriculum of the fourth Law School in the University of Patras. “The country does not need a fourth Law School,” she underlined.

Mrs. Kerameos said that the procedures for the opening of the schools are launched so that they are ready in terms of human resources and books. She also made clear that the government will proceed normally to the 4,500 recruitment in the Special Education.
