The government spokesman, Pavlos Marinakis, responded negatively to journalists’ questions regarding whether the discussion between the Prime Minister and the Ecumenical Patriarch included the “issue of Elpidophoros.”
During the regular briefing of political editors by the government spokesman, Mr. Marinakis was asked about the recent meeting between the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, on the sidelines of the Conference for Peace in Ukraine.
Mr. Marinakis stated that he did not confirm the National Herald report that the topic of discussion between the two men was the “departure” of Mr. Elpidophoros from the Archdiocese of America.
“First of all, let us say that the relationship between the Prime Minister and the Ecumenical Patriarch is stable and long-standing, and their meeting is not news. It is a natural occurrence when time and opportunity allow, and it is a consistent form of communication.
Therefore, no other issue can be compared to the Prime Minister’s meeting with the Ecumenical Patriarch. I repeat, ” I have no such information or knowledge,” Mr. Marinakis emphatically stated in response to journalists’ questions.
