In the context of a “Apostle Paul’s Podium” pilgrimage visit, Vicar to the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, chairman of the Department of the External Church Relations and permanent member of the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Moscow, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, accompanied by Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, DECR secretary for inter-Orthodox relations and Hierodeacon Grigory (Sokolov), translator and employee of the same department, met with Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus at his request.
The delegation was warmly welcomed and various church issues were discussed, including the Ukrainian issue raised by Metropolitan Hilarion.
The Metropolitan of Piraeus held a luncheon at the Yacht Club of Greece and then the delegation visited the Hellenic Naval Academy and was received by the Superintendent. Moreover, Metropolitan Hilarion visited the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary in Piraeus and paid respects to the relics of Saint Nectarios of Aegina. He also visited the Russian section of the Piraeus Resurrection Cemetery where Hilarion offered a Trisagion service for the repose of the soul of Russian Orthodox faithful.
