The US Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, Samuel Brownback, visited Mount Athos these days.
During his visit, the US Ambassador visited the Monasteries of Mount Athos and the Holy Community.
US Ambassador Samuel Brownback had a private meeting with Prior of Vatopedi Monastery Elder Efraim.
Elder Efraim welcomed the US Ambassador to the Vatopedi Monastery, stressing that “Mount Athos is primarily a place of sanctity from the time it was first inhabited to this day.”
Morever, the Elder spoke about the history of the Monastery, while he pointed out that “Mount Athos looks up to Heaven.”
On his part, the US Ambassador said he was deeply grateful for his conversation with the Prior of the Vatopedi Monastery, Elder Efraim, and thanked him for the reception and the meeting.
“Deeply appreciated my conversations with Abbot Ephraim about Vatopedi’s unique history, its role in preserving & reinvigorating the Athos community, & his work to maintain the Monastery’s strong connections to the U.S.,” US Ambassador tweeted in his personal Twitter account.
