The Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Patriarchate of Moscow met today, discussing in particular the new situation, as it has been formed after the granting of the Tomos of Autocephaly to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
In the statement that followed, at the end of the meeting, it is noted that the actions of the Ecumenical Patriarchate (with the granting of Autocephaly) threaten the unity of Orthodoxy.
The Holy Synod asks for the removal of the Τomos of Autocephaly and for the convening of a Pan-Orthodox Assembly “in order to settle the Ukrainian ecclesiastical issue.”
Actually, it emphasizes that the goal of granting Autocephaly, which originally was peace and unity, has not been achieved, and calls on the state authorities not to interfere in church affairs, and thereby not contribute to the division of the society, as it is characteristically pointed out.
Finally, on the occasion of the Great Lent, “we ask everyone to pray that the Lord preserves the unity of Holy Orthodoxy, strengthen us to stand steadfast in defending the Truth of God, to grant us peace, transquillity and mutual understanding in our Ukrainian state and bless us all.”
