Turkey: Soumela Monastery is closed again

The historic Soumela monastery in Pontos is closed again until January 31, 2021 for new restoration works, according to an announcement made by the Turkish authorities in Trebizond.

As reported by ethnos.gr, the new works, which will last three months, aim at holding the rocks with a special wire mesh, so that they do not fall on the monastery.

A large part of the Soumela monastery opened at the end of July 2020; however, the attendance was not very high due to COVID-19 and travel restrictions from abroad.
