The Patriarchal Auxiliary Bishop Varlaam of Ploiești was among the personalities and institutions decorated by Her Majesty Margareta, the Custodian of the Romanian Crown, during a special ceremony at the Royal Palace in Bucharest on March 30.
The Royal Order of the Crown of Romania in the rank of Knight was bestowed upon bishop Varlaam “for his entire pastoral and educational activity during which he deepened the history of Romanian Orthodox spirituality since the Byzantine period, for the generous and gracious help he gave to the organization of events and commemorations of members of the Romanian dynasty over the years at the Patriarchal Cathedral, for the skill with which, through his sermons, he contributes to the knowledge of the enduring historical links between the Crown and the Church.”
The royal decorations are awarded to personalities who are active in various fields and who, through their work, make a substantial contribution to the development and consolidation of Romania.
