Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa arrived on Tuesday morning in the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kinshasa, accompanied by Bishop Theodoros of Babylon, crossing the Congo River, which is the natural border between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo.
At the port of Kinshasa, Metropolitan Nikiforos of Kinshasa, the Congolese Foreign Minister Basile Olongo Pongo, the Ambassador of Egypt, the Ambassador of Greece to Kinshasa Georgios Papakostas, the Consul General of Greece in DR Congo and President of the Greek Community Gerasimos Dounis welcomed warmly the Patriarch.
Then the Patriarch visited the St Nicholas Church of the Greek Community of Kinshasa and attended the Divine Liturgy in the presence of all the aforementioned officials, including the Russian Ambassador and the Serbian Ambassador to Kinshasa.
The Metropolitan of Kinshasa spoke of the importance of the Patriarch’s visit to the Metropolis, and the Patriarch gave a speech on the Patriarchate’s missionary work.
The Patriarch thanked the Metropolitan of Kinshasa and all those who were present at the church of the Greek Community.
On February 20, the Patriarch was welcomed by President of DR Congo Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo in his official residence.
The Patriarch referred to the work done by the Patriarchate of Alexandria throughout Africa. He mentioned the schools and hospitals that the Missionary Metropolises of the Throne have built throughout Africa.
