On September 14, 2022, Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa, had a meeting with the President of the Republic of Madagascar, Mr. Andry Nirina Rajoelina, in the capital city of Antananarivo, Madagascar.
Patriarch Theodoros II was accompanied to the Presidential Palace by the local Metropolitan Ignatius of Antananarivo, Bishop Prodromos of Toliara, the Ambassador of Egypt to Madagascar Mr. Usama Khalil and the Honorary Consul of Cyprus to Madagascar Mr. Panagiotis Taloumis.
The reception of the Alexandrian primate took place on the occasion of the pastoral tour he is carrying out these days in Madagascar.
During the meeting, which took place in a very warm atmosphere, Patriarch Theodoros spoke to the President about the two-thousand-year history of the Alexandrian Church on the African Continent and about the pastoral, missionary, educational and charitable work of the Patriarchate with the aim of building schools, hospitals, churches and other institutions and as he particularly pointed out everything is done for the benefit and the progress of the People of blessed Madagascar.
He also referred to the progress shown by the state in recent years while expressing his great satisfaction for the excellent relations with the two Dioceses of the Patriarchate in the country.
On his part, the President of Madagascar thanked him for the honorable visit and the presence of the Orthodox Church in the country.
