Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and All Africa celebrated Ambassador of Ukraine to Egypt, Hennadil Latii, with the Medal of the Supreme Commander of the Order of the Leo of Alexandria.
Patriarch Theodore II referred to the excellent relations and historic ties between the Patriarchate and the Ukrainian people.
Also, Theodore stressed that the Patriarchate honours the Ukrainian Ambassador, by rewarding his offer, while reminding that they are both connected to the city of Odessa, as Theodore has served 10 years as an Exarch of the Patriarchal Throne of Alexandria.
He also noted that it was the city from which the Greek Revolution of 1821 began, the city where the historic Metochion of the Patriarchate of Alexandria is located.
“Common faith, the faith of the Orthodox Christians, links us with the beloved people of Ukraine,” he pointed out to the Ukrainian ambassador.
Regarding the issue of the Autocephaly of the Church of Ukraine, the Patriarch stressed that he was following the matter with caution and prayer, “wishing and fighting for the interest of the Orthodox Church.”
Finally, he wished through the Ambassador, for a good outcome of the national elections in Ukraine next Sunday.
Excited Ambassador Hennadii Latii thanked the Patriarch for this honour and asked for his blessing for the people of his homeland.
