The Holy Metropolis of Germany participated at the memorial event for the 4,000 Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian soldiers, politicians and scientists from the former Soviet Union, who were executed at the Dachau Concentration Camp (1941-1942).
On the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the attack by the Hitlerite troops in the Soviet Union, the inauguration of the placement of memorial boards at the “Place of Names” was held on June 22, 2019, in the presence of Consul Generals Dr. Sergey Ganzha of Russia, Dr. Andrei Kulazhanka of Belarus, and Mr Yuriy Yarmiko of Ukraine.
The director of the Bavarian Memorial Foundation, Karl Freller, the Head of the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site, Dr. Gabriele Hammermann, many relatives of the victims, Mr. Ernst Gruber, a Holocaust survivor who is currently the chairman of the Dachau Concentration Camp Survivors, Mr. Klaus Mai, chairman of the association of the survivors of the Allach Concentration Camp in Munich, also attended the event.
On the part of the Orthodox Churches of Bavaria, Protopresbyter Apostle Malamousis, Chargé d’Affaires of the Church for public relations with the Bavarian State, was present and laid a red carnation at the “Place of Names”.
The three speeches by the relatives of the victims, in which they narrated the drama of their families, the arrest and the execution of their relatives, were extremely touching.
