Today, the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, presided by Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and All Africa, is meeting in Cairo.
Specifically, on Wednesday, February 14, the Hierarchs of the Patriarchate of Alexandria will begin to gather in the Egyptian capital.
On Thursday, February 15, the first day of the meeting will begin, during which, after the initial greetings and responses, the report of the Pope and Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and All Africa will be presented. The first day will conclude with the election of the Hierarchs and the formal announcement of the election (Mega Minima) by the elected Hierarchs.
The second day, Friday, February 16, will focus on the ongoing non-canonical intrusion of the Russian Church in Africa, followed by a discussion of the issue.
There will be a presentation by Metropolitan Seraphim of Zimbabwe on the topic: “Preserving the Unity of the Local Churches under the Patriarchate of Alexandria in Africa (practical-pastoral approach to the issue)”. The presentation will be followed by a discussion.
The proceedings of the Holy Synod will conclude with a solemn celebration on Saturday, February 17, the day on which the Church commemorates the memory of St. Theodore the Tyro and Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria, and All Africa celebrates his name day. A Patriarchal and Synodal Divine Liturgy will be held at the Patriarchal Church of St. Nicholas within the Patriarchate of Cairo. This will be followed by the unveiling of the marble bust of Patriarch Meletios Metaxakis.
