Archbishop Makarios of Australia will celebrate the Epiphany in Melbourne and Sydney.
On Friday, January 6, 2023, on the day of the great Despotic Feast, Archbishop Makarios will be near the Greek Orthodox flock of Melbourne and will officiate at the namesake Church in the Frankston suburb, from 8.30 am.
After the Divine Liturgy at 1 p.m., the Archbishop will arrive (in procession) at the Frankston Pier for the ceremony of the Blessing of the Waters and the Diving for the Holy Cross. A feast will follow in the hall of the Frankston Community Parish.
In Sydney, the joint celebration of the Epiphany will take place on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at Yarra Bay – Bicentennial Park. The Diving Ceremony for the Holy Cross, presided over by Archbishop Makarios, will begin at 1 p.m.
Half an hour later (1.30 pm), the festive program with traditional dances and a Greek feast with Greek music will follow. There will be large awnings for shade and kiosks with various food and drinks.
