With the blessings of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Canberra, visited the regional city of Queanbeyan and presided over the festive services held at the celebrating Greek Orthodox Parish of Saint Dimitrios.
Speaking to the faithful, Bishop Bartholomew focused on the virtues of Saint Dimitrios the Great Martyr, stressing that he was a man who had a desire to be close to Christ and was not consumed by worldly pleasures. In addition, he noted that in the difficult times we are going through, we must see Saint Dimitrios as a role model and imitate his example.
Finally, Bishop Bartholomew conveyed to the Queanbeyan faithful the love and blessings of their Shepherd, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, while he also wished the Parish Priest, Fr. Iakovos Siriotis, the members of the Parish Council and the Philoptochos Association, along with the faithful congregation, a blessed feast day of their Patron Saint.
It is worth noting that among the congregation were the High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus in Australia, Mr. Antonios Sammoutis, and the Permanent Military Attache of the Greek Embassy in Canberra, Colonel Ioannis Fasianos.
