On Saturday of Lazarus, April 27, Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, Archdiocesan Vicar of Northcote, visited the Parish – Community of St. Andrew the Apostle in Sunshine, Melbourne.
The Bishop officiated the Orthros and presided over the Divine Liturgy on the feast of the Resurrection of Christ’s friend, Lazarus.
In conclusion, after conveying Archbishop Makarios of Australia’s wishes and blessings to the congregation, the Bishop appropriately addressed the significance of the event commemorated by our Church on this day, underscoring its relevance for the life and daily existence of modern individuals.
He particularly focused on the reference of the Gospel passage that Christ wept when he saw the tomb of Lazarus. He highlighted that Christ’s tears were not merely an expression of human sorrow, as typically experienced when we lose a loved one. Rather, Christ wept because, in that moment, as He faced Lazarus, He beheld the condition of humanity at large—the fall from grace and the separation of humanity from God and paradise.
